Teddy and the Rough Riders are a country-rock band led by Ryan Jennings and Jack Quiggins. The group has long bridged the gap between Nashville’s rock and honky-tonk scenes. Their sound is the direct product of being born ‘n’ bred in Nashville, steeped in its country music history and mysticism, while coming up in its DIY rock community. Jennings and Quiggins grew up just blocks from Music Row, in Nashville’s West End (where the original outlaw movement came together during the ‘70s), where both the shiny and gritty influences of country music intersected. As a result, their music is as down-home as it is far-out.
Their self-titled record, produced by Margo Price, came out in July 2021 via Appalachia Record Co. Teddy and the Rough Riders was the band’s debut studio album, but their previous work includes home recordings and a release on Third Man Records. They spent last spring touring as Orville Peck's opening act– featuring a hometown performance at The Ryman. They’ve served as backing band for Emily Nenni on many tours, including one last fall opening for Charley Crockett. They have completed two weeks-long Scandinavian tours in as many years, and played many headlining shows across the states between all of those. Catch ‘em on the road now!
You have wandered off the beaten path and stumbled into an unfamiliar habitat. There’s light shining through the canopy of trees, reflecting off the babble of the stream of which you are now knee deep in. As you take in the flora and fauna you realize you have already begun to worry less about the outside world and are now focused on the world before your eyes. Frogs are jumping in and out of the water, birds are singing songs you do not know, and bugs you’ve never seen before are crawling out from under rocks and logs. If any more steps are taken into this world you can never be the same version of yourself. You wonder how much you can take with you if you leave.
